Rep. Ilhan Omar hires attorneys amid federal immigration probe
U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar has retained two prominent Washington attorneys, Amy Jeffress and Joshua Matz of the law firm Hecker Fink, to defend her against a federal investigation. The probe is examining potential irregularities in Omar’s immigration records and questions regarding financial disclosures related to her husband, political consultant Tim Mynett.
The investigation follows a federal search of Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence on October 12, during which investigators seized her cellphone, passport, and other property. The inquiry includes allegations of immigration fraud and scrutiny of financial valuations of businesses associated with Mynett.
Omar recently appealed to supporters for financial contributions to cover legal expenses, noting that the battle would be costly. The investigation has also drawn attention to a deleted 2013 social media post regarding her father, which some observers suggest may be relevant to the inquiry into her identity and immigration history.
