Rep. James Comer Criticizes Senate GOP Over Stalled SAVE America Act

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R‑KY) appeared on Fox News’ “The Big Weekend Show” and sharply rebuked Senate Republicans for not advancing the SAVE America Act. The legislation would require proof of citizenship and a valid photo ID to vote in federal elections and would restrict mail‑in voting to military members, travelers, and voters with disabilities.

Comer questioned why senators were “that weak,” saying, “Are you that weak? … you don’t need to be a United States senator.” He noted the bill lacks the 60‑vote supermajority and even the 50‑vote threshold needed to change Senate rules, and urged Senate Majority Leader John Thune to work with House Speaker Mike Johnson. The bill enjoys backing from President Donald Trump and a Pew poll showing strong bipartisan support, while four Republican senators – Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Thom Tillis and Mitch McConnell – joined Democrats in voting against it.

Comer called for the Senate to find a way to pass the measure, emphasizing the need to restore confidence in election integrity.
