Rep. Jasmine Crockett Calls for Systemic Reform and Criticizes Black Trump Supporters

U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett urged Black Americans to view the nation’s political turmoil as an opportunity to rebuild institutions that have long failed their communities. Speaking at the National Urban League’s annual conference, she said, “Everything is broken. The question is, are you ready to get in there so that we can actually fix it for once and for all?” Crockett argued that the dismantling of longstanding government structures under the Trump administration exposed weaknesses that marginalized groups have experienced for decades, and she thanked former President Donald Trump for “tearing systems down that didn’t work for us.”

Crockett also linked voting‑rights battles to broader struggles for political power, emphasizing that efforts to limit ballot access target Black voters. In a separate panel discussion, she criticized Black individuals who support former President Trump, recounting a story of a young Black woman whose father said he could “trust Trump.” Crockett described such attitudes as a “reality” that conflicts with the historical loyalty of Black voters and warned that misinformation about civic processes hampers progress.
