Rep. Marcy Kaptur Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run Crash in Toledo
Ohio Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, 80, was a passenger in a vehicle heading to a church service when it was struck in a hit‑and‑run (hit‑skip) collision near the intersection of Detroit and Central Avenues in Toledo. She and another occupant were taken to a nearby hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries. Kaptur was described as "active, alert" and said she looks forward to returning to a full schedule soon.
Her office thanked Toledo police, fire departments and medical personnel for their rapid response and expressed gratitude for messages from constituents. The Toledo Police Department is investigating the crash, which remains in its early stages, and has not yet identified the driver who fled the scene. Kaptur, the longest‑serving woman in the U.S. House and representative of Ohio’s 9th Congressional District, is preparing for a rematch against Republican Derek Merrin in the upcoming midterm election.
