Rep. Thomas Massie files 2028 paperwork after Trump‑backed primary loss

Kentucky Republican Congressman Thomas Massie was defeated in the May 19 primary for the state’s 4th district by Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL endorsed by former President Donald Trump. Following the loss, Massie filed a Federal Election Commission form allowing him to raise money for a possible 2028 campaign, though he said he has not decided which office he might seek.

On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Massie told host Kristen Welker he will not rule out any political option, including a presidential run, a return to the House, or even local office. He emphasized his intent to stay engaged in politics and highlighted his past advocacy on issues such as the release of Jeffrey Epstein files and opposition to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Massie also warned that a growing number of Republicans are experiencing “Trump disappointment syndrome,” arguing that the party risks alienating fiscal hawks, anti‑war voters, and others. His supporters chanted “2028” and “President” at his concession speech, underscoring lingering enthusiasm despite the defeat.
