Rep. Thomas Massie says Iran war has significantly weakened United States

Republican Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky claimed that the war with Iran has "significantly weakened" the United States. He said the conflict has depleted missile defenses, drained oil reserves, driven up consumer‑goods prices, increased the national debt and diverted attention from domestic needs, adding that these costs are being incurred "all for Israel."

Massie posted his comments on X, referencing broader public concerns. A CBS/YouGov poll found eight in ten Americans think the war was harder than expected, and the Energy Department has released 172 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve while demand for U.S. missile‑defense systems and additional defense funding has risen.

The remarks came as Massie faced a primary defeat in Kentucky, and other officials, including former Counterterrorism Center director Joe Kent, have called for a U.S. withdrawal from the region.
