Rep. Tom Kean Jr. Accused of AI Stock Profits Amid Ethics Scrutiny

U.S. Representative Tom Kean Jr. of New Jersey reportedly bought shares in three AI data‑center companies—Texas Instruments, NVent and Analog Devices—worth at least $90,000 since April 2025. The purchases coincided with a surge in data‑center demand and a rise in the firms’ stock prices, and Kean is said to have earned up to $30,000 from sales made in April. Kean, a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and its Communications and Technology Subcommittee, has faced criticism for holding these holdings despite pledging to place his assets in a blind trust.

Democratic challenger Rebecca Bennett and national Democratic groups have accused Kean of profiting from the AI boom while he was absent from Congress for health reasons. Kean’s office contends that all investment decisions are made by independent professionals without his input, and he highlighted his support for the “Stop Insider Trading Act,” which bars members of Congress and their families from trading individual stocks. The dispute has become a focal point in his 2026 re‑election campaign, raising questions about conflict‑of‑interest rules for lawmakers overseeing emerging technologies.
