Repair of Aoo Irrigation Dam in Konitsa Valley, Greece Moves Forward
The Greek government and regional authorities have begun work to repair the Aoo irrigation dam that serves the Konitsa valley in Epirus. The project will fix identified cracks in the existing structure and construct a temporary crossing about 100 m long and 3 m wide to allow machinery to reach the work site safely.
The repair is considered essential for maintaining the irrigation network that supports local agricultural production and the regional economy. Because the dam lies within a Natura 2000 protected area, the works are proceeding with environmental approvals and in cooperation with the Region of Epirus and the Water Management Organization (OFYPEKA). MP George Amiras emphasized that irrigation infrastructure is a basic prerequisite for the primary sector’s growth.
