Replit ends Anthropic partnership to work with OpenAI
Replit CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad announced that the AI coding platform has ended its partnership with Anthropic. Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt, Masad cited cost, partnership terms, and performance as the primary drivers for the decision.
Masad stated that OpenAI’s models, specifically mentioning ChatGPT, have shown superior performance in internal and public benchmarks for building applications from scratch. While Replit previously utilized Anthropic’s Claude models to drive significant revenue growth, the company announced a new partnership with OpenAI in August.
Despite the CEO's comments, some reports suggest the transition may still be in progress, noting that Replit’s own blog posts and product documentation cited the use of Claude models as recently as September.
Regarding business growth, Masad noted that Replit’s enterprise segment has expanded significantly, growing from approximately 2% of total revenue last year to 15% this year, with B2B segments now accounting for over 50% of total revenue.
