Reporter Slam Nigeria competition debuts in Lagos
The inaugural Reporter Slam Nigeria competition was held in Lagos, aiming to elevate Nigerian journalism on a global stage by focusing on the distinction between reporting and storytelling. The event, hosted at the Alliance Française, Mike Adenuga Centre, was organized by convener Melony Ishola, who sought to prepare African journalists for international competition following her own experience in Berlin.
Among the participants, Melody Agwom Dauda, a journalist from Albarka Radio in Bauchi, emerged as the second runner-up. Dauda delivered a performance based on a personal encounter during the 2015 Nigerian presidential election, describing the tension and security concerns she faced while traveling to work. The initiative, supported by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, aims to provide media professionals with mentorship and improved communication skills.
