Reproductive health: The role of lifestyle and medical assistance

Reproductive health and fertility are influenced by both lifestyle habits and medical interventions. Experts note that daily habits, including nutrition, sleep, and physical activity, play a crucial role in preparing the body for conception. Dr. Michele Panzan from Grupo Huntington explains that because eggs and sperm undergo maturation processes before conception, the months leading up to a pregnancy attempt are vital for building reproductive health.

Nutritional patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet—rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish, and healthy fats—are associated with better metabolic and hormonal balance.

When natural conception is not possible, medical assistance offers different levels of complexity. Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a low-complexity technique where processed semen is inserted directly into the uterus to facilitate the meeting of sperm and egg. In contrast, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a high-complexity procedure where fertilization occurs in a laboratory setting, allowing clinicians to bypass more significant biological barriers.
