Repsol secures licenses for 820 million euro project in Sines

Repsol has received the industrial exploitation license for its Project Alba in Sines, Portugal. The project involves an investment of approximately 820 million euros to construct two new factories.

The new units are expected to begin operations by the end of 2026 and will have a combined annual capacity of 600,000 tonnes of polymers, specifically producing polypropylene and low-density linear polyethylene. The company stated that the products will be 100% recyclable and intended for use in the pharmaceutical, automotive, and agri-food industries.

During the construction phase, the project employed up to 1,300 workers. Repsol has already established 100 direct permanent jobs and roughly 300 indirect positions to support the new units. Local officials, including the Mayor of Sines, Álvaro Beijinha, noted the importance of the investment for the region but highlighted the need for increased public investment to manage the resulting population growth and infrastructure demands.
