Republic of Cyprus marks 66th anniversary of independence

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides marked the 66th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Cyprus. He described the establishment of the state as the most significant achievement in the nation's history, resulting from long-standing struggles and the anti-colonial movement led by EOKA.

Christodoulides emphasized that protecting and strengthening the state's foundations remains a top priority. He stated that the government aims to enhance security, modernize the state, and improve the quality of life for citizens. Internationally, the goal is to strengthen the Republic's presence so it is treated as a reliable and creative partner.

The President noted that a stronger state is essential to pursuing the goals of liberation, ending the Turkish occupation, and achieving the reunification of the country through a functional and sustainable solution that ensures peace and security.
