Republic of Moldova reports over 61,000 Ukrainians under temporary protection
The Republic of Moldova is currently examining nearly 460 asylum applications, 88 of which are from Ukrainian citizens, according to Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin. Among these applicants are individuals who recently attempted to cross the Nistru river by swimming to reach the country.
In addition to asylum procedures, Moldova utilizes a temporary protection mechanism. More than 61,000 people, primarily Ukrainians, are currently benefiting from this mechanism within the country.
Data from the UNHCR indicates that as of September, 146,667 Ukrainian refugees remained in Moldova. Approximately 69% of these individuals entered directly from Ukraine via the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, while the remainder arrived from other countries through Romania or via air travel.
