Republic of the Congo advances IMF financial agreement talks

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Republic of the Congo have made significant progress in discussions regarding a new financial support agreement. Following a mission to Brazzaville from September 24 to October 7, 2026, both parties continued talks on economic reforms, public finance management, and growth reinforcement.

The discussions focused on a request for financial support under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and included the 2026 Article IV consultation. An IMF expert team, led by Pilar García Martínez, met with high-level officials, including Prime Minister Anatole Collinet Makosso and various finance and economy ministers, as well as representatives from the Bank of Central African States (BEAC). While discussions were described as fruitful, no definitive agreement has been announced yet, and negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
