Republic of the Congo marks 66th independence anniversary

The Republic of the Congo celebrated its 66th anniversary of independence with major ceremonies in Brazzaville and events for its diaspora in France. In Brazzaville, President Denis Sassou N’Guesso presided over a large-scale military and civilian parade on Boulevard Alfred-Raoul. The event featured approximately 3,000 personnel from the armed forces, police, and gendarmerie, alongside 178 civilian groups. The Figa fund also participated in the festivities, highlighting its mission to support and guarantee small and medium-sized enterprises.

In Paris, the Congolese embassy hosted the diaspora, providing a live broadcast of the Brazzaville parade and holding a reception. Ambassador Rodolphe Adada described the embassy as a ‘common house’ for Congolese residents in France, Andorra, Spain, and Monaco.

Separately, Gabon marked its 66th independence anniversary in Libreville. The celebrations were attended by several African leaders, including Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who held private talks with the Gabonese president following the ceremonies.
