Republic of the Congo healthcare workers suspend indefinite strike
Healthcare workers in the Republic of the Congo have announced the suspension of an indefinite general strike in hospitals and sanitary structures. The decision, announced on October 14, 2026, by the Fenasas/Fesytrasas coordination, follows the payment of two months of salary arrears and the resumption of dialogue with the government.
Medical staff have been called to return to their posts across the national territory starting October 15, 2026. This move aims to restore essential services, including consultations and emergency care, which were disrupted following the strike's relaunch on August 6, 2026. The suspension is a result of meetings involving the Minister of Civil Service, Labour and Social Dialogue, and the Minister of Health and Population.
While the strike is suspended, the underlying grievances remain unresolved. Both the government and labor unions have entered a period of observation and negotiation to ensure the stable functioning of healthcare facilities and to address long-standing demands.
