Republican National Committee warns lawmakers against distancing from Trump

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has issued a warning to GOP lawmakers facing reelection, advising against distancing themselves from Donald Trump. RNC national press secretary Natalie Baldassarre stated that candidates who keep an arm’s length from the former president risk alienating their base and could see a 15 to 20 percent drop in turnout among key Republican voters.

Internal tensions persist within the party regarding campaign strategy. While NRCC Chair Richard Hudson maintains that internal polling shows Trump as a net positive in every district, some lawmakers and operatives expressed concerns about his impact in competitive battleground areas. Some candidates have reportedly been advised by pollsters to avoid mentioning Trump to prevent hurting their chances with moderate voters, while others fear the consequences of falling out of his favor.

Trump is scheduled to headline both nights of the upcoming Republican midterm convention, appearing alongside Vice President JD Vance. Meanwhile, questions remain regarding the distribution of funds from his super PAC, which holds over $400 million.
