Republican National Convention begins in Dallas amid party tensions

The 2026 Republican National Convention has commenced at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The event takes place amidst internal party tensions and shifting political dynamics within the state.

While previous years saw significant gains among Hispanic voters and promises of new Republican House seats from Governor Greg Abbott, recent trends suggest a reversal. Current indicators show those gains have been erased, and a Democrat is positioned to potentially win a Texas Senate seat for the first time in decades. The convention occurs as the party faces internal conflict regarding the economic and political legacy of Donald Trump’s previous term.
