A debate regarding the rising cost of food, specifically the price of burritos, has surfaced within the Republican Party, highlighting internal divisions over the cost of living in the United States.

The controversy, dubbed "burritogate," began after Andrew Kolvet of Turning Point USA noted a student's complaint that a single burrito could cost up to $20. In response, podcast producer Joel Berry suggested the issue might be a "crisis of not knowing how to cook," noting his family could make burritos for eight people for under $20.

This has exposed a fracture between two conservative factions: one arguing that consumers can mitigate costs by cooking at home or choosing cheaper alternatives, and another insisting that rising food prices are a genuine concern for voters and a critical issue for the party to address in upcoming elections.
