Republican representative questioned over Trump’s $5,000 check funding

During a CNN broadcast, anchor Kaitlan Collins questioned Republican representative Moreno regarding the funding source for Donald Trump’s promise to provide $5,000 checks to every American. The proposal is contingent upon Republicans retaining control of both the House and the Senate in the upcoming elections.

When pressed on how these payments would be financed, Moreno suggested that there are “lots of opportunities” to secure the funds, specifically mentioning “market access fees.” Collins countered that this essentially refers to tariffs, noting that such a plan would require the agreement of numerous countries and companies to pay for access to the U.S. market.

Moreno maintained that the ability to deliver such checks has been hindered by Democratic interference and court rulings. Regarding previous promises of checks resulting from Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) savings, Moreno stated that the “DOGE effort continues.”
