Northern Cyprus political activity intensifies ahead of elections
Political activity is intensifying in Northern Cyprus ahead of the upcoming general and local elections. Various party leaders and candidates are outlining their platforms and strategic goals.
In Lefkoşa, UBP candidate Mehmet Aktunç has called for holistic urban planning to address infrastructure and traffic issues, while current LTB President Mehmet Harmancı reported that 80% of the Hamitköy sewage system is now complete.
On a national level, CTP General Secretary Mehmet Kale Kişi has proposed the creation of an independent Anti-Corruption Authority to address public concerns regarding misconduct. Meanwhile, TDP leader Zeki Çeler noted that recent polling suggests no single party is currently positioned to secure a majority, pointing toward potential coalition governments.
Other political developments include the UBP announcing 72 candidates for its upcoming internal elections and CTP representatives expressing confidence in their ability to lead the next five-year term.
