Republicans hold $230 million fundraising lead ahead of 2026 US midterms

Republican congressional committees have built a sizable cash advantage as the 2026 U.S. midterm elections approach. The National Republican Congressional Committee reported $17.6 million raised in June, bringing its total to $82.6 million for the cycle and creating a $13.7 million cash‑on‑hand lead over the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The Republican National Committee ended June with a $128.5 million war chest, the largest stockpile since the RNC’s inception. House Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise have each contributed personal fundraising hauls—$135 million and $55 million respectively—further boosting the GOP’s war chest.

A Washington Post analysis estimates the overall Republican advantage at about $230 million when accounting for Super‑PACs, party committees and other fundraising entities. Democrats have narrowed the gap in individual candidate races and enjoy stronger support from certain labor‑union and fundraising committees, but the aggregate cash disparity still favors Republicans, allowing them to secure television advertising and other campaign resources ahead of the November vote.
