Republicans hold Dallas convention ahead of midterm elections

Following a two-day Republican midterm convention in Dallas, political operatives are focusing on the challenge of mobilizing apathetic voters for the upcoming election. While the event succeeded in rallying party support, Republicans face significant hurdles, including the need to defend 26 House seats and six Senate seats. Historically, the president's party has lost seats in approximately 90% of midterm elections since 1946.

Donald Trump proposed a plan to send stimulus checks to every American adult, contingent upon Republicans winning control of both houses of Congress in November. Critics have characterized this proposal as a ‘budget-busting bribe.’

Challenges for the GOP include an approval rating that is 18 points underwater, inflation at approximately 3%, and market uncertainty stemming from trade tensions with Canada and conflict in Iran. Current polling shows Democrats holding a 6.4% lead in generic congressional ballots. Analysts suggest that using high-profile spectacles to re-engage low-propensity voters remains an untested strategy.
