Republicans hold inaugural midterm convention in Dallas

The Republican National Committee is hosting an unprecedented midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, on September 9 and 10, 2026. Held at the American Airlines Center, the two-day event, dubbed “Trumpapalooza,” aims to mobilize the party's base and showcase Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

President Donald Trump is scheduled to headline both nights, delivering a keynote address on Wednesday and closing remarks on Thursday following a speech by Vice President JD Vance. The convention is designed to highlight the administration's achievements, such as tax cuts and border security, and to encourage supporters to vote as if Trump himself were on the ballot.

However, the strategy faces challenges. Trump's approval rating has reached a low of 33% amid concerns over inflation and the conflict in Iran. Additionally, some Republican Senate and House candidates have expressed reluctance to attend, preferring to remain in their home districts to focus on local campaigning. Decision Desk HQ currently projects a split 50-50 Senate and a Democratic House majority of 229 to 206.
