Republika Srpska and Macedonia police log hundreds of serious traffic violations

In June, police in Republika Srpska recorded 268 cases of the most serious traffic offences – called “obijesna vožnja” – after the new traffic safety law took effect at the end of May. The law imposes harsher fines of 2,000‑5,000 KM, licence suspensions and the possibility of permanent vehicle seizure for repeat offenders. Dragan Milošević, chief traffic police inspector, said the figures reflect intensified road checks during the summer months.

During the same weekend, Macedonian police carried out regular traffic controls that resulted in 1,426 penalties, including 455 speed‑related offences. Sixty‑four drivers were stripped of their driving privileges, among them 11 for alcohol‑related driving and 27 for driving without a licence. Authorities also confiscated 22 vehicles and issued fines for illegal parking, helmet‑less motorcycling, failure to wear seat‑belts and other violations.

Both reports highlight a regional push for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and the application of tougher penalties to improve road safety.
