Republika Srpska clinical center reports abortion statistics

Data from the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska reveals that 172 abortions were performed at the facility over a period of approximately eight months this year. Of these cases, seven involved minors. For the full year of 2025, the center reported a total of 223 abortions, consisting of 113 uterine curettages and 110 medical terminations of pregnancy, with two cases involving minors.

Gynecologist Bojan Stevanović provided medical context, distinguishing between spontaneous abortions (miscarriages) and induced abortions. He noted that intentional terminations are typically performed via two methods: medical, using drugs to empty the uterus, or surgical, often through vacuum aspiration in early pregnancy. The choice of method depends on the duration of the pregnancy, the patient's health, and method availability.
