Republika Srpska Court rules discrimination of Bosniak children at Zvornik school
The Supreme Court of Republika Srpska issued a final judgment confirming that the entity of Republika Srpska and the public elementary school “Sveti Sava” in Zvornik discriminated against Bosniak children on the basis of language. The court found that Serbian-language labels were pre‑printed in student books, while Bosnian language entries were left blank and Bosniak pupils were marked with the phrase “language of Bosniak nation”.
The ruling orders the school to correct all official school records and student books so that the languages of the constituent peoples are labeled in the same way. Lawyer Nedim Ademović, representing the affected children, said he will monitor the implementation of the judgment and noted that the case continues a legal struggle lasting almost a decade to protect the right of every child to be treated equally and to have their mother tongue recognized by its constitutional name.
