Republika Srpska government unblocks RTRS bank accounts

The bank accounts of Radio-televizija Republike Srpske (RTRS) have been unblocked following financial assistance from the Government of Republika Srpska. This intervention allowed the public broadcaster to pay July salaries to its employees.

The account freeze originated from a court order following a legal dispute between RTRS and Radio-televizija Bosne i Hercegovine (BHRT). While one report notes the freeze was related to 5.4 million KM in legal costs stemming from a larger 105 million KM debt in unpaid RTV taxes, another highlights a Sarajevo court ruling requiring BHRT to pay RTRS over 17.7 million KM.

Despite the unblocking, structural issues remain. Officials have called for negotiations between the management of both broadcasters and noted that the current Law on the Public RTV System in Bosnia and Herzegovina is dysfunctional, contributing to ongoing legal and financial disputes.
