Republika Srpska independence proposed in US political commentary

Discussions regarding the territorial reorganization of Bosnia and Herzegovina have resurfaced following a report by the American conservative publication The Washington Examiner. The article proposes that the United States administration consider the dissolution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and grant independence to Republika Srpska, suggesting a model similar to Kosovo.

The proposal suggests that President Donald Trump could recognize Republika Srpska's independence and assist in making the new state functional. Additionally, it suggests the Pentagon establish a military base near Banja Luka, with the new state and Kosovo mutually recognizing each other to serve as key American allies in the region.

Srđan Mazalica, a representative in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, described the text's perspective on the Balkans as “sobering,” noting the argument that multinational states have historically failed in the region. While Mazalica noted the text does not align with Republika Srpska's views on Kosovo or its cooperation with Russia and China, he observed that the piece suggests the U.S. could gain a strong new ally through international recognition.
