Republika Srpska labor laws outline overtime limits and reporting deadlines

In Republika Srpska, employees facing labor rights violations must adhere to strict reporting timelines. To seek assistance from the labor inspectorate, a worker must report a violation within one month of discovering it and no later than three months after the incident occurred. Once these deadlines pass, inspectors lose the legal basis to act, leaving workers to rely on judicial protection.

Regarding overtime, full-time employment is defined as 40 hours per week. While employers may implement overtime due to unplanned workload increases or emergencies, there are legal limits: overtime cannot exceed 10 hours per week or four hours per day. Annually, overtime is capped at 180 hours, though collective agreements may extend this to a maximum of 230 hours. Workers are entitled to increased pay for overtime, night shifts, work during holidays, and work under difficult conditions.

Certain groups are protected from mandatory overtime, including workers under 18, pregnant women, mothers of children up to three years old, and single parents or adopters of children under six, unless they provide written consent.
