Republika Srpska suspends school classes due to extreme heat

All primary and secondary schools in Republika Srpska have suspended classes until September 11 due to extreme heat. The decision follows incidents where a student fainted and a teacher felt unwell during lessons in Banja Luka.

Miroslav Popžen, President of the Assembly of School Directors for the Banja Luka region, stated that the suspension is necessary to protect the health and lives of students and staff. He noted that school buildings have absorbed heat throughout the summer, making classroom conditions unbearable, particularly in rooms facing southeast.

The Ministry of Education and Culture will determine how to compensate for the missed instructional time. Officials noted that the school year can still be successfully completed as long as 95 percent of the curriculum is realized.
