Republika Srpska simplifies NIPT prenatal testing procedures

The Health Insurance Fund of Republika Srpska has introduced new amendments to the 2026 Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) program to streamline the process for pregnant women. Under the new rules, any specialist gynecologist and obstetrician from a healthcare facility contracted with the Fund can now recommend the NIPT test. Previously, recommendations were restricted to primary care gynecologists where the woman was specifically registered.

To receive a refund, pregnant women must sign a consent form with their gynecologist, which is then submitted alongside the reimbursement request. The program continues to cover costs for women over the age of 35 and younger women with specific medical indications.

Testing can be performed at any facility providing the service. Following the test, women must apply to the Health Insurance Fund for reimbursement within one year of payment. Based on decisions by the Government of Republika Srpska, the Fund will reimburse costs according to the official price list, up to a maximum of 1,100 KM.
