Republika Srpska tourism sees growth amid calls to extend visitor stays
Tourism in Republika Srpska is experiencing growth in both arrivals and overnight stays. Marko Radić, head of the Tourism Promotion Sector at the Republika Srpska Tourism Organization, stated that while the continuous increase in traffic is encouraging, the region must convert its potential into high-quality, concrete offers to ensure stronger sector development.
A primary goal for the industry is to extend the average length of guest stays and increase investment in promotion and nature protection. Currently, domestic tourists account for approximately 40 percent of arrivals, while regional guests combined with domestic visitors make up between 75 and 80 percent of total tourism traffic.
Key international markets include Turkey, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy, with a growing number of tourists from China. Major growth areas identified include outdoor tourism, spa and wellness tourism, winter sports, rafting, and cultural-historical sites. While Jahorina remains a leader for winter tourism, summer demand is rising for active recreation such as rafting. Radić also highlighted the importance of international festivals and sporting events as drivers for longer stays and increased local spending.
