Common household waste products like coffee grounds, eggshells, and cooking water can be repurposed for cleaning and gardening, though experts advise caution regarding their application.

Coffee grounds are increasingly used as a natural cleaning agent for toilets due to their abrasive texture and deodorizing properties. However, specialists warn that using them in plumbing can lead to serious issues. The grounds can accumulate in pipes, especially in older systems, and combine with soap or paper to create thick masses that cause clogs.

In gardening, coffee grounds can provide nitrogen and organic matter to soil, but excessive amounts may hinder seed germination. Similarly, eggshells offer calcium but require fine crushing to decompose effectively. Other useful organic waste includes fallen leaves and wood ash, which can be integrated into compost to create free resources for plant care.
