Requião Filho challenges RIC debate cancellation at TRE-PR

Candidate Requião Filho (PDT) has filed a complaint with the Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR) following the cancellation of a scheduled political debate by Grupo RIC. The debate, intended to cover the race for the Governor of Paraná, was originally set for September 21.

The campaign argues that the broadcaster had provided written confirmation of the event and established protocols for candidate absences, including converting the debate into a journalistic interview if necessary. Requião Filho’s team contends that the cancellation violates a formal commitment made during the organizational phase in August.

Grupo RIC justified the cancellation by citing uncertainties regarding the participation of several major candidates and the operational complexities of the broadcast. The broadcaster stated that the circumstances during organization did not allow for the maintenance of the project, despite acknowledging the importance of debates to the democratic process.
