RER A begins major track modernization on eastern branches

RATP has launched a major modernization program for the eastern branches of the RER A line in France. The project involves renewing approximately 80 kilometers of tracks and roughly 40 switches, a process expected to continue until 2043.

Initial work includes the renewal of tracks and ballast (RVB) on the two eastern branches. Recent phases have caused total traffic interruptions between Vincennes and Noisy-le-Grand-Mont d’Est. Current summer works are concentrated near the Val-de-Fontenay station, where a new underground passage has been created to facilitate connections with the future metro line 15.

The modernization aims to replace aging equipment installed between the mid-1970s and early 1990s. The long-term program will require regular traffic disruptions, primarily during summer periods, and occasional evening interventions on certain sections of the line.
