Rescue dog Quino dies after mission in Venezuela

Quino, a decorated rescue Labrador belonging to the Spanish NGO Intervención, Ayuda y Emergencias (IAE), has died following a two-month battle with an undiagnosed illness. The dog passed away at the Veterinary Clinic of the Catholic University of Valencia.

Quino had recently returned from a mission in Venezuela, where he worked alongside firefighter and handler Pancho Gerber to locate survivors following the earthquakes on June 24. For his service, the Venezuelan authorities decorated the IAE volunteer team.

Health issues began shortly after his return to Spain, characterized by persistent nasal bleeding. Despite undergoing numerous medical tests, including ultrasounds, CT scans, and blood transfusions, specialists were unable to determine the exact cause of the condition. Quino’s career included previous emergency deployments in Turkey, Morocco, Brazil, and during the DANA flooding in Valencia.
