Rescue saves three after water scooter hits Gdańsk breakwater

On 19 July 2026, a water scooter carrying three people collided with a breakwater at the "Zielona Główka" site near the mouth of the Wisła Śmiała river in the Górki Zachodnie district of Gdańsk, Poland. The occupants—identified as a mother, her son, and a third passenger—became trapped on concrete star‑blocks of the structure as waves battered the area.

Local municipal police on patrol received the VHF distress call and secured the scene before a unit of the Maritime Search and Rescue Service (SAR) arrived. Rescue teams divided tasks, safely transporting one person and the damaged scooter to shore while SAR personnel evacuated the remaining two from the star‑blocks to a rescue station in Górki Zachodnie. All three were released without serious injuries.

Authorities praised the swift coordination and urged water users to exercise caution around breakwaters and river mouths, noting that water conditions can change quickly and mistakes may be fatal.
