Four killed as four‑storey building collapses in Zefti, Egypt

On 1 August 2026 a four‑storey residential building on Palestine Street in Zefti, Gharbia Governorate, collapsed, killing four occupants. Emergency services rescued survivors, cleared debris and secured the site with a security cordon.

The Egyptian Public Prosecution dispatched a team to the scene, ordered the collection of surveillance footage, witness statements and engineering reports, and formed an urgent engineering committee to assess the structural causes and inspect nearby buildings. Governor Dr Alaa Abdel‑Mati visited the site, thanked rescue crews and directed the engineering administration to produce a comprehensive technical report and to ensure the safety of adjacent structures.

Authorities have begun legal and technical investigations into possible construction violations and are preparing measures to prevent further incidents.
