Research examines the complex relationship between cats and stress
A study published in the journal ‘Frontiers in Psychology’ has examined the relationship between pet ownership and emotional well-being. While interacting with pets is generally associated with more positive emotions, researchers found a complex dynamic regarding stress management.
By tracking 188 pet owners in real-time through multiple daily questionnaires, the study observed that during moments of acute stress, owners who interacted more frequently with their cats reported slightly higher levels of negative emotions. This suggests that while cats contribute to overall well-being, they may not function as an immediate remedy for stress during difficult situations.
