Research links dynapenic obesity and social determinants to dementia risk

Research involving a large cohort from the UK Biobank has identified a significant link between dynapenic obesity and an increased risk of dementia. In a study of 279,884 participants aged 55 and older, those with dynapenic obesity faced a 67% higher risk of dementia compared to healthy individuals. The risk was notably higher in males, individuals under the age of 65, and non-ε4-carriers of the APOE gene.

Separate ecological analysis has examined the perception of dementia risk among Black adults. This research utilizes causal loop diagrams and a composite index of structural and social determinants of health to understand how these factors influence risk perception within this demographic.
