Research links online gaming to toxic behavior and addiction in Indonesian youth

Academic research from Universitas Islam Negeri Ar-Raniry explores the psychological impacts of online gaming on adolescents in Indonesia.

One study conducted in Gampong Neuheun found that online gaming has a 40% influence on toxic behavior among teenagers. The most frequently played games identified were Mobile Legends (53.3%), Free Fire (21.5%), PUBG Mobile (16.8%), and eFootball (8.4%). The research concluded that online gaming has a significant positive correlation with toxic behavior in this demographic.

A separate study in Takengon examined the relationship between parent attachment and online gaming addiction among high school students. Utilizing a quantitative correlational approach with 241 students, the research identified a strong correlation (r = -0.991) between the emotional bond between parents and children and the tendency toward gaming addiction.
