Research shows delayed sexual intimacy among young adults
Research indicates that a significant portion of young adults in the 18 to 25 age group are experiencing sexual intimacy later than previous generations. Specifically, approximately 24% of women and 36% of men in this demographic have not yet had sexual intercourse.
Marek Broul, head of the Sexology Department at Masaryk University Hospital in Ústí nad Labem, suggests this trend is driven by a combination of factors. These include delayed stable relationships, extended periods of study, economic uncertainty, living with parents, and increased time spent in digital environments.
Experts also note that social media and easily accessible digital content can create unrealistic expectations regarding body image and intimacy. The digital environment often introduces stylized or simplified versions of sexuality to young people before they have their first real-world partner experiences.
