Research suggests orgasm may decongest nasal passages
A 2021 study conducted by German and British researchers suggests that sexual activity resulting in orgasm can decongest a blocked nose as effectively as a nasal spray. The physiological mechanism is attributed to the sympathetic nervous system and the vasoconstriction of nasal blood vessels.
The study, which received an Ig Nobel Prize, monitored 18 heterosexual couples by measuring nasal airflow before and after sexual activity, comparing the results to the use of a decongestant spray. While the research showed a significant improvement in nasal airflow immediately following an orgasm, the effect is temporary, with airflow typically returning to normal within a few hours.
