Researcher advises avoiding four food types for longevity
Dan Bitner, a researcher specializing in ‘blue zones’—regions where people frequently live to extreme old age—has identified four categories of food that should be avoided or strictly limited to improve lifespan and quality of life.
Bitner suggests that keeping these items out of the home is crucial for maintaining healthy habits. The first category is processed meats, such as ham, bacon, and sausages, which are linked to increased health risks, including colorectal cancer.
The second category includes sweets and sugar-sweetened beverages, such as sodas, juices, cookies, and chocolates. Excessive daily consumption of these industrially produced items can lead to high sugar intake. Bitner recommends replacing processed meats with alternatives like poultry, eggs, legumes, or plant-based proteins.
