Researcher identifies matching 18th-century shoes in Czech museums
Veronika Pilná, a researcher from the National Heritage Institute in Plzeň, has identified that two separate museum pieces are actually part of a single pair of luxury red women's shoes. The shoes, likely dating back to the first third of the 18th century, were previously held in different locations: one in a museum in Cheb and the other in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague.
The discovery follows over a decade of research. The separation of the pair likely occurred in the 19th century. Through meticulous archival work and comparison of embroidery patterns, heel shapes, and toe designs, Pilná confirmed the connection. While the shoes have been reunited in findings, they will remain in their respective museums.
