Archaeologists find soil and anomalies in Ağrı ship-shaped formation

A 90-day archaeological field study regarding the ship-shaped formation in Doğubayazıt, Ağrı, believed by some to be the remains of Noah's Ark, has concluded. The research project, led by Professor Dr. Cenker Atila of Sivas Cumhuriyet University, involved approximately 20 scientists from five countries.

Project Vice President Andrew Jones reported that core drilling revealed the formation is not a single solid rock mass as previously claimed, but is composed of soil. Jones noted the discovery of rich, black, organic soil at depth, which researchers are analyzing to determine if it consists of decayed wood or traces of past human activity.

Additionally, new-generation radar scans identified several anomalies beneath the surface. Approximately 1,000 soil samples have been sent for laboratory analysis to determine whether the structure is natural or man-made. A final report is expected to be completed by April or May of next year.
