Researchers develop bioinformatics tool to study Chagas parasite
Researchers from CONICET and UNSAM have developed GCanner, a bioinformatics tool designed to analyze the genome of Trypanosoma cruzi, the parasite responsible for Chagas disease. The software acts as a molecular scanner, providing a more precise and standardized way to study the pathogen's complex genome. This innovation aims to reduce scientific bias and improve the reproducibility of results across global laboratories, laying the groundwork for more effective diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
In parallel, health authorities in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, are focusing on clinical prevention through workshops aimed at addressing congenital Chagas. The Ministry of Health is conducting training sessions at the UPA N° 15 Tradición Oeste to strengthen detection, prevention, and care protocols for maternal and infant health, specifically targeting the reduction of vertical transmission of the disease.
