Researchers develop reference architecture for quantum software
Researchers are developing a new reference architecture for quantum software to address the current fragmentation in the field. Led by the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Systems Engineering (IAO), the project involves the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the FZI Forschungszentrum Informatik.
Currently, quantum computing software is often tied to specific hardware, making it difficult to develop long-term applications as hardware technology evolves. The FullStaQD project aims to create a unified blueprint that allows different quantum computers and software solutions to work together, similar to how electrical standards allow various devices to connect to a single power outlet.
By establishing these standards, the researchers hope to prevent a repeat of the software crisis seen in the 1960s, where powerful hardware existed without the mature software necessary to utilize its full potential.
